my health-i-versary

One year ago, on December 7, 2020, I decided to commit to a reputable, well-researched nutrition program to help me prioritize my health. A program that would help me lose weight and create new healthy habits that could help me sustain that weight loss longterm.

I anticipated (well, hoped for) the weight loss; I even anticipated feeling better but what I didn't anticipate were all the other lessons and discoveries that I would make along the way.

So, today, 12 months into this journey, I'd like to share 12 of those lessons and discoveries with you all:

1. I didn’t know how bad I felt until I felt better, and now that I know, I hope I never forget.

2. I am a lot, and I will not be for everyone. That. Is. Okay.

3. Healthy is more than a number on a scale. It takes daily work in every aspect of my life to find and live in optimal health: mind, body and heart.

4. Small, incremental changes can lead to big results. It's hard, but be patient.

5. Consistency will get me further than motivation ever will.

6. My weight does not define my worth. I am worthy regardless of my size or physical appearance. Period. Full stop.

7. I am the culmination of the choices I make: hour-to-hour, day-by-day and year-upon-year. I must choose wisely.

8. Change is hard and often makes other people uncomfortable. It's okay to change anyway.

9. It is important to set goals that align with my values and that push or challenge me, instead of setting goals that are reasonable, safe, common or expected.

10. My story is my own. It is unique and worth telling, even if it looks messier or different than I planned.

11. The quality of the food that I fuel my body with matters more than anything.

12. It's always okay to ask for help (thanks, Treffrey) and 'no, thank you' is a complete sentence.
